The USHL announced Thursday Green Bay Gamblers President Jeff Mitchell has been named the 2021 Dave Tyler USHL Executive of the Year. The award is determined by a vote of senior management from USHL Member Clubs.
Jeff was named Director of Business and Promotions before the 2008-09 and was promoted to President prior to the 2020-21 season. Under his leadership the Gamblers have consistently ranked near the top in league attendance, shown consistent growth in corporate sponsorships, and introduced promotions that have gained national acclaim.
Mitchell was a member of the Gamblers Head Coach/General Manager search committee that hired Stanley Cup Champions Jon Cooper (2008-10) and Derek Lalonde (2011-14), Eric Rud (2010-11) and Pat Mikesch (2014 -). These hires have brought two Clark Cups (2010 & 2012) and three Anderson Cups (2009, 2010 & 2012) to Green Bay.
This marks the second time a member of the Green Bay Gamblers has been recognized as Dave Tyler USHL Executive of the Year. Brendan Bruss won the award in 2018. The award is named in honor of Dave Tyler, recognizing his leadership and dedication to the USHL and junior hockey in the United States. He served as President of the USHL from 1982-94 and his tenure with USA Hockey ran from 1975 to 2007.
“I want to thank Brendan Bruss, Pat Mikesch, Greg Lynch, Heidi Lou Radish, as well as the entire Gamblers staff and volunteers,” says Mitchell. “Together we were able to get through a challenging year and together will continue to elevate the Gamblers program both on and off the ice. Thank you to the league owners for their recognition. It is a tremendous honor and I am extremely humbled.”
Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the 2020-21 season will be the USHL's 19th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league. The USHL had 51 players selected at the 2020 NHL Draft, marking the third-straight season with 50-or-more USHL players selected in the Draft. More than 800 league alumni are currently on NCAA Division I rosters, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
