Former USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP) forward Logan Cooley was selected with the third pick of the 2022 NHL Draft Thursday night at Bell Centre in Montreal.

With the selection, the United States Hockey League (USHL) has now had a top-three selection in five of the last seven NHL Drafts. Cooley joins fellow former NTDP skaters Jack Hughes (New Jersey Devils - 2019, 1st Overall), Auston Matthews (Toronto Maple Leafs - 2016, 1st Overall), Matthew Beniers (Seattle Kraken - 2021, 2nd Overall) and Jack Eichel (Buffalo Sabres - 2015, 2nd Overall), as well as former Chicago Steel defenseman Owen Power (Buffalo Sabres - 2021, 1st Overall) and former Muskegon Lumberjacks forward Andrei Svechnikov (Carolina Hurricanes - 2018, 2nd Overall) as a top-three USHL selection in the past eight Drafts.

"The USHL continues to develop top players and talent and this is a great night for our League to be showcased on the world hockey stage," said USHL President and Commissioner Bill Robertson. "Tonight was no exception with Logan being selected third in tonight's NHL Draft. We are excited to see how the remaining rounds progress for our League."

Cooley played the last two seasons with the NTDP, which is one of the USHL's 16 Member Clubs. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native will attend the University of Minnesota after his USHL career.

The USHL has had 50-or-more players Drafted in each of the last four NHL Drafts, dating back to a league-best 57 players at the 2018 Draft. The League has seen 933 of its players selected in total, with at least one player taken in each Draft but one dating back to 1981.
