The United States Hockey League announced today that Katie Gaus has been named the league’s Media and Communications Coordinator.

She will be responsible for supporting the Director of Media & Communications at league events such as the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, Clark Cup Playoffs, Fall Classic, USHL Draft and USHL Combines as well as the NHL Draft, creating weekly written, graphic and video content for USHL.com, clipping live highlights during USHL games for use on social media platforms, serving as co-host of The U-Show, a weekly podcast about the USHL and helping to update and maintain USHL.com and USHL social media channels.

The 26-year-old Gaus joins the USHL after recently completing her master’s degree in digital journalism from Syracuse University.

“Katie emerged from an impressive list of candidates for the position,” said Kevin Meyers, USHL Director of Media and Communications. “Her wealth of experience, diverse skill set and remarkable work ethic will be tremendous assets for the USHL.”

A 2015 graduate of Geneseo State University of New York, Gaus started in radio broadcasting as the sideline reporter for WGSU, covering the Geneseo Ice Knights hockey team. Gaus also spent two seasons with the AHL’s Rochester Americans where she served as head broadcast intern. During her time with Rochester, Gaus scripted, produced, and hosted the team’s first original video series, Amerks All-Access, a show dedicated to giving fans a behind the scenes look at the team. Gaus’ work on the video series earned her multiple accolades, including two silver Telly Awards for one episode, Amerks All-Access: “The Mind of a Goalie.”

Following her time in Rochester, Gaus went on to work as a video production intern for the Pittsburgh Penguins, where she served as the host of PensTV.

Gaus also spent time working in broadcast television, most notably as the weekend sports anchor for WICU12, an NBC affiliate station in Erie, PA. Gaus was the first ever female sports anchor in the market, where she reported live from major events such as the NFL Playoffs and the Stanley Cup Final.

A native of Pittsburgh, PA, Gaus has strong USHL ties in her family, where she is the oldest of four children. Her brother, Andrew, is a USHL alum who served as an alternate captain of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in 2014-15 before playing his college hockey at Yale University.

Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the USHL celebrates its 17th season as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league in 2018-19. The USHL had a record 45 players selected at the 2018 NHL Draft, more than any junior league in the world, and more than 400 players on team rosters last season committed to NCAA Division I schools, further establishing the USHL as the world’s foremost producer of junior hockey talent.
