Tri-City Storm forward Ian Murphy has announced a commitment to play college hockey at Princeton University. Murphy is skating in his first season with the Storm, and is currently tied for the team lead with two goals through his first five games played.

Murphy, 19, of Scituate, MA was selected by Tri-City in the 13th round of this year’s USHL Phase II draft. He previously skated for the Cape Cod Whalers (MHSL) in Falmouth, MA and the Dexter Southfield School in Brookline, MA. Murphy netted his first career goal with the Storm in Tri-City’s 2-1 win over the Madison Capitols at the 2018 Dick's Sporting Goods USHL Fall Classic on September 28th.

“Academics have been a huge my whole life. Princeton is the best school in the world for academics, they’ve got a really good team this year, and the campus and coaches were awesome," Murphy said. "I love it here with Tri-City, coming from prep school hockey there was definitely an adjustment period, but the coaching staff and veterans on this team have made me feel comfortable. We’re off to a great start, and it’s a lot of fun right now.”

“Ian brings elite speed, and a high skill level to our team. He’s been able to chip in scoring, help us push the pace in games, and has added character to our organization through the way he’s handled himself", said Tri-City head coach Anthony Noreen. His goal was to go to an Ivy League school, that was his dream, and I’m glad to be able to help him achieve that. I’m extremely proud of him and his family, and happy to be a part of his development.”
